Golden Gopher All-America sprinter Ibrahim Kabia and pole vaulter Ben Peterson collected NCAA provisional qualifying marks as the Minnesota men’s track & field team hosted the Snowshoe Open on Friday in the University Fieldhouse.
Kabia, clocked a time of 6.73 seconds to win the 60-meter dash. A nagging injury has kept Kabia off the track for most of the spring, but the provisional mark is a good sign for the Gophers as they head into the Big Ten Championships in Madison, next weekend.
Peterson cleared a personal-best height of 17 feet, 0 3/4 inches to gather his first NCAA provisional qualifier. The Gopher sophomore led a Minnesota sweep of the top five places in the event. Joe Plencner cleared 16-8 3/4 to finish second.
Sophomore Aaron Studt posted a double win for the Gophers, capturing titles in the shot put and weight throw. Studt overtook teammate Jerry Netland on his final throw to win with a toss of 56-10 3/4. Netland marked a career-best throw of 55-11. Studt easily won the weight with a heave of 60-8 3/4.
The Gophers added four additional titles on the track. Chris Rombough ran a time of 4:06.83 to win the mile, with Mike Linnemann placed first in the 400-meter dash (50.26) and Logan Stroman won the 600 meters (1:19.97). Luke Silovich captured the win in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.22 seconds.
