Minnesota Earns Season-High 194.725 at Iowa

Minnesota competed on uneven bars in the first rotation, earning a 48.850. Kristin Furukawa was the team’s top performer, taking first place with a 9.850. Junior Angela Walker came in third place with a 9.775 to tie her best score of the season. Carmelina Carabajal and freshman Yuri Nagai each earned marks of 9.750 to tie for fourth place.
On the vault, junior Jade Beattie was Minnesota’s top scorer. Beattie earned a career-best 9.800 on the vault to tie for fourth place overall. Carabajal was the second-highest scorer for the Gophers, earning a 9.750. Senior Ashley Mutchler earned her best vault score of the year with a 9.725. Minnesota’s team score on vault was 48.575.
In the third rotation, the Gophers competed on floor exercise and tallied their best floor score of the 2008 season with a 48.825. Carmelina Carabajal and Angela Walker tied for the team’s highest score, each earning a 9.800 to tie for fourth place. Jade Beattie earned her career-best floor score with a 9.775, while freshman Kendra Elm earned her personal-best floor score with a 9.700.
Carmelina Carabajal was the Gophers’ highest scorer on beam, earning a 9.825 to place second. Ashley Mutchler and Ana Balboa each matched their best beam scores of the season, earning scores of 9.750 and 9.725, respectively. As a team, Minnesota tallied a 48.475.
In all around competition, Carabajal finished in second place with a 39.125. Angela Walker finished in fifth place, earning her personal-best all around score with a 38.900.
Minnesota will compete at Iowa State on Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m. The Gophers return to compete at the Sports Pavilion on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
