Matt Nohelty Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Minnesota junior outfielder Matt Nohelty (Rothschild, Wis.) was named Big Ten Player of the Week for Monday, Mar. 10. Nohelty becomes the first Golden Gopher to claim the weekly honors since Mike Mee did so on Feb. 27, 2007.
Nohelty batted .500 on the week in three games, going 7-for-14 with four RBI and three runs. In the first game, he went 4-for-5 with a run, three RBI and stolen base to help lead Minnesota to a 7-3 win over New Mexico on Mar. 7. Nohelty went 1-for-5 with a run in a close 4-1 loss to No. 18 California on Mar. 8. He wrapped up the weekend going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in an 11-9 victory over Northern Iowa on Mar. 9 to move the Golden Gophers to 2-1 on the weekend.
He has collected multiple-hits in six of the last seven games to bring his batting average to .425. That .425 average is currently sixth in the Big Ten. Nohelty is also currently tied for fifth in total bases (20), tied for first in hits (17), eight in on-base percentage (.465) and is tied for eighth in RBI (10).
Minnesota will be back in action this week when it travels to Pacific on Mar. 14-16. The Golden Gophers will face the Tigers on Friday, Mar. 14 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 15 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 16 at 3 p.m. All three games can be heard on gophersports.com, and the final two will be broadcasted on KLBB (1220 AM).
