Gophers Fall 6-1 to 31st-Ranked Hoosiers

A pair of third-set tiebreakers both went to Indiana as the Hoosiers posted a 6-1 victory over Minnesota on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind., handing the Gophers their third straight Big Ten loss.

Tijana Koprivica picked up Minnesota’s lone point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles. She and Alessandra Ferrazzi also teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, but Indiana won the other two doubles contests to gain the team point.

Ferrazzi at No. 1 singles and Lindsay Risebrough at No. 2 singles each lost in third-set tiebreakers. Ferrazzi fell 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 and Risebrough suffered a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 loss.

Minnesota, ranked 49th nationally, dropped to 10-5 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten, while 31st-ranked Indiana is now 14-3 overall and in first place in the league with a 3-0 Big Ten mark.

The Gophers return home next weekend to host Penn State on Saturday and Michigan on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center. Both matches start at 11 a.m.
