The Minnesota men’s track team sent three athletes to the Iowa State Qualifier on Saturday hoping to earn or better NCAA qualifying marks for next weekend’s NCAA Championships.

Sprinter Ibrahim Kabia won the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.72 seconds. Kabia also has a better provisional time (6.67) from the Big Ten meet.

Sophomore Ben Peterson, the Big Ten pole vault champion, placed second in the event clearing a height of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Peterson has a provisional mark from the Big Ten Championships (17-1 3/4) so he will have to wait until the NCAA field is announced to see if his provisional mark earns a berth into the national meet.

Joe Plencner finished third in the pole vault at 16-6 3/4. Plencner took three attempts at the NCAA provisional height of 17-1 3/4.

The field for the NCAA Indoor Championships will be released early next week.
