Gopher Women Move up to Eighth at Big Ten Championships

The Minnesota women’s golf team improved on its second round score by five strokes and in doing so moved up two spots to eighth after three rounds of the 2008 Big Ten Championships. The Gophers have finished 11th the last two championships.

Gopher freshman Teresa Puga continues to score low for Minnesota, as she added a 3-over 75 to her score card that already included a 77 and a 74. Her overall score of 226 puts her in a tie for 12th place heading into Sunday’s final round.

Fellow freshman Mary Narsizi carded a 4-over 76 Saturday and is in a tie for 25th with a 14-over 230 (76,78,76). Also, Paige Bromen is in a tie for 32nd with a score of 16-over 232 (76, 79, 77), Samantha Sommers is in a tie for 47th with a 238 (79, 79, 80), Young Na Lee is in a tie for 52nd with a 240 (81, 82, 77) and Michele Edlin is 60th with a 244 (82, 81, 81).

Purdue continues to roll and holds a 17-shot lead over second place Michigan State. Ohio State (+39), Indiana (+44) and Wisconsin (+46) and Michigan (+46) round out the top five.

Purdue individuals sit 1-2-3 in the fight for medalist honors led by Maria Hernandez with a 4-under 212. She leads Christel Boeljon by seven shots (3-over 219) and Maude-Aimee Leblanc by eight shots (4-over 220).
