Chiarelli Wins Twice in Gophers' Loss to Western Michigan

Karina Chiarelli won in both singles and doubles, but the Minnesota women’s tennis team went down to its third straight defeat with a 5-2 setback on Sunday at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Chiarelli won her No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-0 and joined Lindsay Risebrough for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Western Michigan won the other two doubles matches to take the doubles team point.
Danielle Mousseau won her No. 5 singles match for Minnesota’s other point, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory. Tijana Koprivica won her opening set at No. 3 singles, but lost 10-8 in a super-tiebreaker for a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 defeat.
The 57th-ranked Gophers dropped to 11-8 overall with the loss, while Western Michigan, ranked 73rd by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is now 12-7 overall.
Minnesota will host three matches next weekend, starting with Wisconsin on Saturday at 11 a.m.
