Veteran media relations professional Andy Seeley has been selected to join the Minnesota Athletics Department as associate director of athletic communications, director of athletic communications Garry Bowman announced Tuesday.

Seeley, who will handle media relations for the Gophers’ football and men’s gymnastics teams, began his tenure at Minnesota yesterday.

“Andy’s background as a media relations professional is outstanding and I am thrilled to announce his addition to our staff,” Bowman said. “He not only brings a wealth of industry experience with him to Minnesota but also a reputation for developing strong relationships and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Seeley comes to Minnesota after nearly four years at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, were he served as the primary contact for the Runnin’ Ute men’s basketball team. In his first three years at Utah, Seeley was the primary contact for the Utes’ women’s basketball and baseball teams, while also serving as the secondary contact for football.

Seeley began his career in collegiate media relations Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. He served as Sports Information Director at his alma mater from 1997 through 2004. During his seven years at Northwest Missouri, the Bearcat football team won two national championships and made five NCAA Division II playoff appearances.

Following his 1994 graduation from Northwest Missouri, Seeley worked as the Sports Information Director for USA Roller Sports in Lincoln, Neb., for three years. He is a native of Milford, Neb.

“I think this is a great time to be at Minnesota,” Seeley said. “There are a lot of very positive things going on in this department and I’m excited to be a part of the Gopher family.”
