A young Gophers’ squad enjoyed another quality season with a 15-11 record in 2007-08. Minnesota opened the year with nine wins in its first 10 matches and advanced to the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. The Gophers had just two seniors on the squad.

Minnesota went from five wins in 2006 to 12 wins in 2007 before this year’s 15-win campaign. The Gophers tied for sixth place in the Big Ten standings and suffered two conference losses by narrow 4-3 margins. Minnesota also posted an impressive early-season non-conference win over NCAA tournament qualifier North Carolina State.

Freshman Alessandra Ferrazzi led the Gophers with a 23-15 overall record and played every match against a Division I opponent at the No. 1 singles position. Sophomore Tijana Koprivica led the team in wins for the second straight year and finished 24-11 overall, including 7-3 in Big Ten play and 12-1 at the No. 4 singles position.

Minnesota had an especially solid year in doubles, winning the doubles point in 14 of its dual matches and posting a combined 73-53 record in doubles play. Ferrazzi and Karina Chiarelli went 13-3 in doubles and claimed the top flight title at two fall tournaments.
