The Golden Gopher women’s track & field team will be represented by eight athletes at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Drake on June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Six of the eight Gophers earned automatic berths into the NCAA field of 544 athletes to compete in the national meet by placing in the top five at the recent regional championships.

The Minnesota contingent is headlined by four returning All-Americans: Heather Dorniden in the 800 meters, Liz Roehrig in the heptathlon, Ruby Radocaj in the javelin and Alicia Rue in the pole vault. Dorniden and Rue captured NCAA Midwest Region titles to advance, while Radocaj was the regional runner-up. Roehrig earned an automatic qualifying score in the heptathlon, one of two events (10,000 meters the other) to qualify athletes directly to the Championships.

Other collecting automatic bids were Liz Podominick in the shot put and Andrea Smith in the pole vault. Podominick will also compete in the discus.

The remainder of the NCAA Championships field was filled with at-large berths. To be eligible for an at-large invitation, an athlete needed to rank among the national leaders in the event and finish among the top 12 at the regional championships. Jamie Cheever received an at-large berth to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Christin Kingsley was added to the NCAA field in the long jump.
