Gopher Updates from the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials

The University of Minnesota women's swim team continues action at the United States Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., at the Qwest Center. Minnesota had four swimmers compete in three events of the last two days in Molly Belk, Christine Jennings, Jenny Shaughnessy and Kait Strickland. The Trials run through July 6.
Jennings and Shaughnessy each competed in the 200 freestyle on July 1st. Shaughnessy chipped in a time of 2:02.85 to place 61st out of 103 competitors. Jennings touched the wall in a time of 2:03.17 and finished 68th overall. Stickland tied for 73rd overall in the 200 individual medley when she clocked a time of 2:20.19. Belk competed in the 200 fly on July 2nd. Belk placed 65th overall with a time of 2:17.08.
Tomorrow's action includes the 100 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke. Stacy Busack, Meredith McCarthy and Megan Braun will all compete in the 100 free event, while Strickland and former Gopher Keri Hehn will compete in the 200 breaststroke. Hehn enters the event with the fourth-fastest time of 2:25.73.
