The University of Minnesota will be well represented at the 2008 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships. Each of Minnesota's six returning divers have qualified for at least one event for the July 22-27 competition at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, Calif.

On the men's side, junior Tyler Jepsen advanced to the national meet on the 10-meter platform by virtue of a fifth-place finish at the National Preliminary Zone C meet in Dallas last week. Jepsen accumulated a score of 228.80. Senior Cole Young and sophomore Drew Brown are already qualified on all three individual events (1-meter and 3-meter springboard and the 10-meter platform) and both synchronized events.

On the women's side, junior Jacqueline Schroeder earned berths in the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform events and will compete in the 10-meter synchronized event. Schroeder finished third on the 3-meter at the Zone Preliminary qualifier in Dallas with a score of 255.45. She won the 10-meter platform competition with a score of 260.60. Taylor Enerson gained a berth at the National Championships with a fifth-place finish on the 10-meter platform as well. Rounding out the Gopher lineup at Nationals will be sophomore Maggie Thomas, who won the 3-meter synchronized event with teammate Jennifer Chiang to grab an invitation.

Approximately 125 of the nation’s best divers will participate in the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships. Notable divers expected to attend include the entire 2008 U.S. Olympic Diving squad, including 2000 Olympic platform gold medalist and 2005 world champion Laura Wilkinson, 2005 World Championship silver medalist Troy Dumais, 2008 World Cup bronze medalist David Boudia and Christina Loukas.
