Gophers Finish Fourth at U.S. Open

The University of Minnesota women's swim team finished the United States Open in fourth place overall, which was held at the University Aquatic Center on the U of M campus. The Golden Gophers had a great meet, breaking multiple school records.
In the final night of competition, Christine Jennings finished 15th in the 1500 freestyle. She clocked a time of 17:00.87, while incoming freshman Ashley Steenvoorden was 18th overall (17:05.40). Jenny Shaughnessy broke a school record in the 200 individual medley in the final night of the U.S. Open. She finished 13th overall with a record-breaking time of 2:17.04. Kait Strickland finished 34th overall in the same event. Stacy Busack led the Gophers in the 50 free. She improved her prelim time of 26.07 to 25.91 in the finals for 11th overall.
In the final event of the Open, Minnesota finished fourth overall in the 4x100 medley relay. The foursome of Roxane Akradi, Strickland, Shaughnessy and Busack combined for a time of 4:12.46.
