Jason LaFrenz, who joined the University of Minnesota athletics department as director of marketing and ticket sales in August of 2006, has been promoted to assistant athletics director for marketing and ticket sales effective immediately, athletics department officials announced today.
“Jason has done a fantastic job in his role managing our marketing efforts and increasing ticket sales,” associate athletics director for external relations Tom Wistrcill said. “The merger of these units under his leadership has been very successful for us and his skills will be vitally important as we move into TCF Bank Stadium. This promotion is well deserved.”
In addition to overseeing the merger of the marketing and ticket offices since joining the staff and Minnesota, LaFrenz has managed the implementation and use of the athletics department’s new AudienceView ticketing services system and directed a branding campaign designed to unify and maintain the consistent of use of Golden Gopher colors, marks and imagery.
LaFrenz also played a key role in the development of the Gopher Points system that the athletics department will use to seat TCF Bank Stadium and recently spearheaded the development and launch of the new TCF Bank Stadium website (www.tcfbankstadium.com).
Prior to joining the Gophers, LaFrenz directed all marketing activity for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, including ticket sales, game presentation and promotions. In that position, he developed and implemented a strategic ticket sales plan that generated significant new sales in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
A native of Edina, Minn., and a 1989 graduate of UW-Eau Claire LaFrenz originally joined the Timberwolves’ organization during the franchise’s inaugural season in 1989-90 and worked in a variety of sales and marketing capacities before being promoted to his final role as the vice president of marketing and chief marketing officer in 2004.
