Berns Collects Top-Five Finish at 2008 Minnesota State Open

University of Minnesota senior Kelli Berns shot a 5-over par 76 Tuesday in the final round of the 2008 Minnesota Women's State Open at Stonebrooke golf Club in Shakopee. She finished with a 36-hole total of 9-over par 151 for the open and took home the fourth place trophy.
Angie Oberholser carded the low round of the day with a 2-under 69 to capture her second Minnesota State Open title by four strokes over Katie Detlefsen, the first round leader. Leigh Klasse was third, five strokes behind Oberholser and two srokes better than Berns.
Gopher sophomores Samantha Sommers bettered her opening round 78 by three strokes to finish sixth. Fellow sophomore Michele Edlin and senior Young Na Lee finished tied for 14th and 38th, respectively.
Berns, who redshirted for the Gophers last season, was one of two Minnesota players to compete in all 10 events during the 2006-07 season. As a junior in 2006-07, she finished with a stroke average of 79.41, the second lowest on the team, and established a season-low 54-hole score of 235 on two occasions, at the Lady Paladin Invitational and the Rio Verde Invitational.
