Golden Gophers Say Thank You at Italy Night
9/11/2008 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Over 200 supporters joined the Minnesota women’s basketball team for Italy Night in the Williams Arena Club Room on Wednesday to hear stories, view pictures and share memories of the Golden Gophers’ recent trip to Italy. The evening served as an opportunity for the Gopher program to say thank you to the many people who helped the team enjoy a trip of a lifetime.
The crowd feasted on Italian fare and was entertained by opera singers, watched a slide show from the trip and later a video. The fans’ favorite part of the evening, as always, was the chance to interact with the Gopher players and staff. Several players took the microphone and told stories from the trip. Assistant coach Ted Riverso, a native Italian, offered a heartfelt, yet humorous, salute to the trip, his first to his homeland. The evening was concluded by Coach Pam Borton’s remarks, including her thanks to supporters and optimistic thoughts on the upcoming season.
