So far this season the University of Minnesota women’s golf team has returned each weekend to the Twin Cities with a top-five finish. The squad finished second at the Wolverine Invitational to start the season, took fifth a week later at the Mary Fossum Invitational, and in hopes of keeping the streak alive, is currently in third place after 36 holes played at the Badger Invitational.
It was the tale of two rounds for Minnesota today. They found themselves in ninth place after the morning session with a 314. Luckily most of the field found University Ridge Golf Course to be tough in the morning, as only two teams, California and Wisconsin, shot sub 300 scores.
The Gophers did rebound in the afternoon session with the best score of the day, a 2-over par 290, thanks to a pair of sophomores. Teresa Puga and Mary Narzisi shot a 77 and 81, respectively in the morning but the duo responded with a 2-under par 70 and a 1-under par 71 in the afternoon.
Individually, Puga sits in a tie for eighth place while Narzisi is in a tie for 19th with teammate Michele Edlin, who carded rounds of 78 and 78. Paige Bromen is tied for 27th after rounds of 77 and 78 while Kelli Berns is in a tie for 44th.
California leads the team portion of the tournament by nine strokes over the host Badgers with a 36-hole total of 17-over 593. Individually, Wisconsin’s Jessie Gerry, playing as an individual, is 7-under par and leads by six strokes over California’s Pia Halbig and Illinois’ Hailey Koschman.
The Badger Invitational concludes on Sunday and can be followed on golfstat.com.
