Gold Team Defeats Maroon 2-1

The Gold team defeated the Maroon Squad 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel in the second game of the “Steak N Beans” Fall Intrasquad Games to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
AJ Pettersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) led off the first bottom of the first with a double to left field, and moved up when Kyle Geason grounded out to the right side of the infield to move him to third. Pettersen scored on an RBI ground out by O’Shea in which put Maroon up 1-0.
The Gold Team did not get on the scoreboard until the fifth inning. Robert Stevenson (St. Louis, Mo.) drew a leadoff walk, and moved to second on a single by Ethan Liederman (New York, N.Y.). Both runners moved up when JT Canakes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) beat out an attempted sacrifice for an infield single to load the bases. Albrecht brought home Stevenson with a fielder’s choice RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth, the Gold Team took the lead when Kyle Knudson (Maple Grove, Minn.) drew a walk and moved up to third on a pair of wild pitches. Knudson came home to score on an RBI groundout by Matt Puhl (North St. Paul, Minn.)
The Maroon team threatened to rally in the bottom of the seventh Trip Schultz (Forest Lake, Minn.) had a leadoff single, and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kurt Schlangen (Albany, Minn.). Drew Hanish (McKinney, Texas) drew a one-out walk to make it first and second. Gold pitcher Luke Rasmussen (Northfield, Minn.) tightened up and struck out Troy Larson (Maplewood, Minn.) for the second out. Petersen lined out to Ryan at third base to end the game.
Liederman had two hits for the Gold Team, and Albrecht knocked in his third RBI of the series. Shultz finished with two hits for the Maroon Team.
For the Gold Team, Dustin Klabunde (Brownton, Minn.), Allen Bechstein (Apple Valley, Minn.), Austin Lubinsky (LaCrosse, Wis.) and Rasmussen combined to give up only three hits and one run in seven innings.
Seth Rosin (Shoreview, Minn.), Phil Isaksson (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Sam Schissel (Kenosha, Wis.) gave up only three hits and struck four through the first five innings of the game.
Rasmussen picked up the win for the Gold Team, and Tim Ryan (Eagan, Minn.) took the loss for the Maroon Team.
NOTES: The third game will be on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m., and the fourth game will be on “Family Day” on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. ... Albrecht leads both teams with three RBI in the first two games.
