Gopher Women's Basketball Gives Back
1/10/2009 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Minnesota women’s basketball team is busy preparing for the second week of Big Ten action, but without classes in session the Golden Gophers are also taking the time to give something back to their community. The Gophers will participate in a pair of community service opportunities this week.
On Tuesday (Jan. 6), the Gophers will volunteer at the Feed My Starving Children location in Eagan. The program prepares meals to send to needy children around the world. In past years, FMSC sent food to more than 30 countries, including Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Tanzania, Liberia, Ghana, Guatemala, Malawi, Cambodia, Nicaragua, India, and Indonesia.
Then on Friday (Jan. 9), the Gophers will visit the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview. Several members of the team cited their visit to the children’s hospital a year ago as the most meaningful community service experience of their Gopher careers.
