1/19/2009 12:00:00 AM | Men's Track & Field
Minnesota senior sprinter Ibrahim Kabia was named the Big Ten’s Co-Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after posting a near-record time in the 60-meter dash at the Minnesota Open last Saturday. Kabia, a Brooklyn Center, Minn., native, clocked a time of 6.64 seconds in the event, just a hundredth of a second (.01) off his Minnesota school record of 6.63 he ran at the NCAA Championships in 2007. Kabia was the first collegiate finisher in the meet. The time is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA meet in March.
Kabia, who collects his third career Big Ten Athlete of the Week award, shares this week’s honor with another of the Big Ten’s top sprinters, Illinois senior Gakologelwang Masheto.
Minnesota hosts the Jack Johnson Minnesota Classic this Friday-Saturday, Jan. 23-24.
