1/19/2009 12:00:00 AM | Women's Track & Field
Minnesota junior pole vaulter Alicia Rue has made a habit of breaking the Minnesota pole vault record. Rue, a Plymouth, Minn., native, was named the Big Ten Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Week after breaking the Gopher school record for the fifth time in her career, winning the event with a height of 14 feet, 4 inches at the Minnesota Open on Saturday. The mark is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships in March.
This is the fourth Big Ten weekly award of Rue’s career and her second consecutive honor this season. Rue is the defending Big Ten indoor champion and earned All-America honors a year ago.
Minnesota hosts the Jack Johnson Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 23-24.
