Gophers Ranked No. 8 in Preseason

The College Gymnastics Association’s Pre-Season coaches poll has been released. The University of Minnesota   is ranked No. 8 in the poll.

Defending NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Champion Stanford sits in first place with eight first place votes. Cal jumped to second in the polls after finishing fourth at the 2009 NCAA’s. The Bears received four first-place votes. Oklahoma sits in third place in the poll after finishing in third at last year’s NCAA’s. The Sooners received three first-place votes.

Michigan is in No. 4 in the polls after finishing a surprise second at the 2009 NCAA’s. The Wolverines received one first place vote.

The rest of the top 10 has Illinois at No. 5, Penn State at No. 6, Ohio State at No. 8, the Gophers at No. 8, Nebraska at No. 9 and Iowa at No. 10.

“The Big Ten Conference again shows its strength in the pre-season polls with all six Big Ten programs in the top 10 in the nation,” Minnesota head coach Mike Burns said. “The Big Ten Championships are usually a great indicator of how things will finish at the NCAA’s. The Big Ten Championships continue to be the showcase of what collegiate gymnastics is all about.”

The 2010 NCAA Gymnastics Championships will be held at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. April 15 – 17, 2010. The Big Ten Championships will be held two weeks prior to the NCAA’s April 2-3 at Ohio State.
