Gophers in 14th After Day One

The University of Minnesota shot an opening round 299 to sit in a tie for 14th place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Gophers' score of 11-over puts them 16 strokes behind first place Louisville, who shot an opening round five-under 283.

Leading the way for the Gophers was junior Teresa Puga. Her round of one-over 73 has her in a tie for 32nd place, six strokes behind leaders Kelli Shean of Arkansas and Alice Kim of UC Davis. Freshman Jackie Shepherd and junior Michelle Edlin both shot opening rounds of 75 and both are currently in a tie for 52nd place. Senior Christine Herzog opened with a 76 and junior Samantha Sommers shot a 78.

The Gophers continue play on Tuesday and look to make up ground with a strong second round.
