Gopher Wins SDSU Classic Title

Minnesota landed six runners in the top 10 finishers to cruise to the team title of the South Dakota State Classic with 24 points, on Saturday (Oct. 3), in Brookings, S.D. Megan Duwell finished second clocking a time of 17 minutes, 27.9 seconds over the 5-kilomter course.
Elizabeth Yetzer placed fourth in a time of 17:43.4, starting a string of five consecutive Golden Gophers to cross the finish line. Yetzer was followed by Amy Laskowske (17:44.9), Kayla Wagner (17:47.4), Nikki Swenson (17:49.0) and Heather Dorniden (17:56.9).
Overall all 11 Gophers competing finished in the top 20.
“Winning is always nice and our goal, but as a team, we are still working to progress to where we need to be at the end of the season,” said Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson.
Beverly Ramos of Kansas State captured the individual title in a time of 17:11.5.
Minnesota’s next competition date is Oct. 17, when the Gophers will compete at both the Pre-NCAA Meet and the Tori Neubauer Invitational.
