University of Minnesota junior soccer player Kylie Kallman has been named First Team Academic All-District by ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA, announced Oct. 29.

A defender, Kallman has started 17 matches for the Golden Gophers this season as the Minnesota soccer team has racked up a 10-5-3 record, and currently stands in fourth place in the Big Ten with a 3-3-2 record. She is one of 12 student-athletes named to the University Division First Team and one of just 23 honorees to represent District V, which includes Universities from the Big Ten, Big East, Missouri Valley, Mid-America, Horizon, Summit and Ohio Valley Conferences.

A Woodbury, Minn. native, Kallman is the owner 3.79 grade point average in Marketing and Operations Management. This is the first time she has been named to the Academic All-District First Team, after being honored as a second team member in her first year of eligibility as a sophomore last season. Also as a sophomore in 2008, she was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team.

Kallman has paced a defense this season that has pitched eight shutouts on the year which is already the sixth best mark in team history and the second best single season in this decade. As a defense the Golden Gophers maintain a .746 goals against average which is 40th in the nation and ranks third in the Big Ten. Additionally, Kallman and the defense have allowed just two first period goals and none in overtime this season.

In her career Kallman has started 62 career matches making her one of just two current Golden Gophers to do so. She was an integral part of the 2008 Big Ten Championship team and she has been a starter for the last 31 Minnesota shutouts.

Individually this season she has collected four points on a goal and two assists, leading the Golden Gopher defenders in scoring, and in shots with 19. She was one of four Golden Gophers to score in the 4-0 season opening win over South Dakota State on Aug. 21 and has collected assists against Nevada (Sep. 18) and Illinois (Sep. 27), making the Gophers 2-0-1 when she tallies a point.

It is the home stretch for Kallman and the Gophers with just two games left to play. The season's final home stand begins Oct. 30 as Minnesota hosts Northwestern for a 7:00 p.m. match-up at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The regular season then closes on Nov. 6 with another 7:00 p.m. game at Robbie Stadium, when Indiana comes to town.
