Looking to build off a strong start at the Gopher Invitational two weeks ago, the Minnesota women's tennis team travels to Evanston, Ill. for the Northwestern Invitational Oct. 9-11.
The Gophers are among nine teams competing in the weekend tournament. It is Minnesota's second fall competition after a successful performance at the Gopher Invitational two weeks ago.
Minnesota is one of four Big Ten schools in the field along with traditional national power and host Northwestern, Michigan State and Wisconsin. Other participants are Akron, DePaul, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and South Carolina.
The Gophers had two individual champions at the Gopher Invitational as Tijana Koprivica won the main draw by beating teammate Alessandra Ferrazzi in the title match. Freshman Alexa Palen added a title in the second singles flight, while Koprivica and Ferrazzi teamed for a runner-up finish in the main draw.
Koprivica and Ferrazzi also competed last weekend in the Cal/Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. with both players falling to top 20 opponents in the second round. Koprivica brings a 5-3 record into the weekend with all three losses coming against ranked foes.
This weekend's action starts at noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Results will be available following the competition at gophersports.com.
