Gophers Set to Host Minnesota Grand Prix

GOPHERS HOST MINNESOTA GRAND PRIX
The University of Minnesota and the University Aquatic Center will host national and Olympic talent this weekend as the Gophers compete in the Minnesota Grand Prix, Friday-Sunday. All action begins at 9 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
NATIONAL TALENT
The Aquatic Center will see some of the world's best swimmers this weekend. Scheduled to compete at the meet is Olympians Rebecca Soni,Kate Ziegler and Chloe Sutton and recent U.S. Open champion Erika Erndl. On the men's side is Tyler Clary of the University of Michigan, Michael Klueh, Daniel Madwed of the University of Michigan, Mike Alexandrov and Simon Burnett.
SPECTATOR TRAVEL ADVISORY
Travel to Saturday’s competition will be impacted due to a University of Minnesota Football game against South Dakota State that afternoon. This will severely impact traffic on campus and no parking will be available for the Prelims session on Saturday. There are several options for transportation however. Limited parking will be available on the West Bank and St. Paul Campus parking ramps. Shuttle service will be available from those locations by the University Campus Connector. LAST YEAR AT THE GRAND PRIX
Jillian Tyler and Stacy Busack were both victorious at last year's Grand Prix, Nov. 14-16 at the Aquatic Center. Tyler won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.17, while Stacy Busack won both the 50 and the 100 freestyle events. Ashley Steenvoorden placed third overall in the 1000 and 1650 free (behind Chloe Sutton and Kirsten Groome). Kaylee Jamison finished second int he 400 IM, third in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 free.
ENTERING THE GRAND PRIX
Minnesota is 2-0 on the season, winning back-to-back Big Ten meets against Wisconsin and Iowa. The Gophers defeated Wisconsin, 179-121 and Iowa, 176-118 for a 2-0 dual meet start. Minnesota will compete in the Grand Prix, its only home meet of the first semester.
MINNESOTA DIVING
The Golden Gophers will host Nebraska in a dual diving meet in conjunction with the Minnesota Grand Prix.
ON THE BLOCKS
Minnesota will rest and get ready for the Ohio State Invitational, Dec. 4-6 in Columbus, Ohio. All days will have prelims and finals.
