Gophers Ink Five for 2010-11

The University of Minnesota Women's Golf team announced today that Banchalee Theinthong, Chloe Leurquin, Aubrie Nelson, Tiffany Gretsch, and Taylor Quinn have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Gophers. All five players will be eligible to compete during the 2010 fall season.

Theinthong hails from Bangkok, Thailand and was a member of the Thailand National Team. She holds a Top 20 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) ranking and finished first in two AJGA tournaments in 2009. Theinthong also had three top five finishes in AJGA summer tournaments in 2009.

Leurquin joins the Gophers from Brussels, Belgium, where she was a member of the Belgian National Team. She competed in the European Team Championships for Belgium in 2009, winning all of her matches. In 2008, she finished third in the German International Ladies Championship and 16th in the Girls British Open Amateur Championship.

Nelson comes from Edina, Minn. to join the Gophers in 2010. As a senior at Edina High School, she was the medalist at the 2009 Classic Lake Championship and won her section to lead Edina to the Minnesota State meet. Individually, she finished fifth in the Class AAA State High School Meet. Nelson finished ninth at the State Women's Open this summer and was the leader after the first round after shooting a 1-under par 71.

Gretsch hails from Albany, Minn. where she was the MVP for the Albany Golf Team in 2009. She finished 12th in the 2009 Minnesota State High School meet as a junior and has participated in the event every season since premiering as an eighth grader. In 2008, she was the West Central Conference champion and in 2009, she finished 18th at the Pepsi Little People's Golf Championship and was the Albany Golf Club Women's Club Champion.

Quinn joins the Gophers from Barrington, Ill. where she was a four-year starter and two-year captain at Barrington High School. In 2009, she earned medalist honors at the Illinois State Championship qualifier, the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour and the PJGT-Cog Hill Tournament. Quinn also finished in 10th at the AJGA Flossmoor Open. During her junior year, she was the Mid Suburban League High School Conference Champion.
