Freshman defenseman Megan Bozek received the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week award after a stellar performance against Bemidji State last weekend. It is the first honor for the Buffalo Grove, Ill., native.

Bozek led the Gopher scoring charge in their WCHA series sweep over the visiting Beavers last weekend when she scored a goal and three assists. Last Friday (Nov. 20), Bozek tallied an assist on the third period game-winning goal and held a +2 plus-minus rating in Minnesota’s 4-2 win over the Beavers. Last Saturday (Nov. 21) was a career night for the rookie blueliner, as she contributed on all three goals in the Golden Gophers’ 3-1 victory over BSU. Bozek scored her first collegiate goal, unassisted, on the power-play at 13:27 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. She later set up Emily West’s game-winning, power-play goal at 5:23 in the second period to give UM a 2-1 lead and then assisted on Terra Rasmussen’s goal at 18:39 in the third for the win. Also a member of the Gopher penalty-kill unit, Bozek also helped hold the Beavers scoreless in nine power-play attempts. She had eight shots and a +2 rating on the weekend.

Bozek and the rest of the No. 2 Golden Gophers take on No. 3 Clarkson in a pivotal non-conference match up this weekend at Ridder. Friday's game is set for 7:07 p.m., while Saturday's contest is set for 3:07 p.m.
