After leading Minnesota's offense in a weekend sweep of Alaska Anchorage, Gophers' senior forward Tony Lucia has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week.

Lucia totaled five points in the series as the Gophers posted 5-1 and 4-1 victories over the Seawolves. In the series opener, Lucia had two shorthanded goals and an assist, marking the first multiple-goal and three-point game of his career. He became the first Minnesota player to notch two shorthanded goals in a game since Mike Carman against Michigan on Nov. 25, 2006. His first shorthanded score put Minnesota ahead 2-1 at the 4:47 mark of the second period.

In Sunday's game, Lucia added a goal and an assist. He finished the weekend with a plus-four rating and also put a team-high nine shots on goal. His five points for the season currently leads the team in scoring.

The Gophers are now 2-3-1 overall and play at Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday. The Badgers collected the league's other two weekly honors as defenseman Brendan Smith was the Defensive Player of the Week and defenseman John Ramage was the Rookie of the Week after Wisconsin swept New Hampshire.
