Gibbemeyer and Tan Collect Weekly Honors

Junior middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) and senior Christine Tan (Safety Harbor, Fla.) each collected weekly conference honors on Monday, Nov. 30. Gibbemeyer was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week, while Tan collected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Tan was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this year and the 10th time in her career. The 10 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors is a school and Big Ten record. It is also the second-highest total of weekly honors in Big Ten history.

Gibbemeyer collected her second Big Ten Player of Week honors this year and the third of her career. Minnesota has had three different players collect Big Ten weekly honors this year. Along with the honors Gibbemeyer and Tan have collected, Love also has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice (Sept. 7 & Oct. 26) and Big Ten Co-Player of the Week (Oct. 26).

Last week, Gibbemeyer hit .509 (31-5-51), averaged 5.17 kps and had 2.17 blps in a two three-set victories over Northwestern and No. 5 Illinois. She .524 (13-2-21) with 13 kills and eight blocks in the victory over the Wildcats, and had 18 kills, five blocks and hit .500 (18-3-30) in the three-set victory against the Illini.

Tan finished the week averaging 5.83 dps and received 35 of 36 serves perfectly. She was part of a Minnesota defensive effort that held the opposition to a .126 hitting percentage in the two contests. Tan collected 21 digs against Northwestern, and had 14 against Illinois.
