Minnesota Cruises to Win over Idaho State

Minnesota shot 73 percent (8-11) from three-point range and scored 22 points off turnovers to capture a 79-44 win over Idaho State in non-conference action in Williams Arena on Wednesday. The Golden Gophers, led by Kiara Buford with 13 points, improved to 7-3 on the season.


Minnesota controlled the tempo from the game’s tip. The Gophers, with Katie Ohm scoring five early points, made seven of their first 11 field goal attempts. Ashley Ellis-Milan scored all 10 of her points in the first half to extend Minnesota’s lead to 42-22 at halftime.

The Gophers continued to build on its lead in the second half. Minnesota went 4-for-4 from behind the arc to maintain a comfortable lead throughout. Head coach Pam Borton used her bench extensively in the game with 10 Gophers adding to the scoring output.

Senior Zoe Harper sparked the Gophers with several nice plays in the second half. She brought the crowd to their feet when she grabbed a steal at half-court and scored on a spinning lay-up to give Minnesota a 63-31 lead with 7:32 remaining.

Jackie Voigt was the third Gopher to score in double figures with 12 points. She added four assists. Brianna Mastey scored a career-high seven points.

Idaho State (2-8) was led by Kaela Oakes with 10 points.

Minnesota hosts Iowa State on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in its next competition.
