Minnesota is making its third National Semifinal appearance in school history, and its first since it went to the National Title match in 2004. The Golden Gophers are joined by Stanford (4), Nebraska (3), Penn State (3), USC (3) and Washington (3) as one of only six teams in the nation to make three or more National Semifinal appearances since 2003.

The Golden Gophers, who are the tournament's No. 11 seed, advanced to the National Semifinals with a four-set victory over Florida State in the NCAA Regional Finals on Dec. 12. Minnesota, who also defeated Colorado State in the NCAA Regional Semifinals, is the only team that hosted an NCAA Regional this past week to advance. The Golden Gophers are now 7-1 in their last eight NCAA Regional matches.

Minnesota will face second-seeded Texas in the National Semifinals. The Longhorns enter the National Semifinals with a 28-1 overall record after defeating Texas A&M in the Regional Semifinal round and Nebraska in the Regional Finals. Texas will be making its second straight National Semifinal appearance. Last year, the Longhorns lost to Stanford in the semifinals.

Penn State enters the National Semifinals as the top seed in the tournament, and is 36-0 this season. The Nittany Lions have won 100 straight matches after defeating California in the NCAA Regional Final in Gainesville, Fla. Penn State also defeated Florida in the NCAA Regional Semifinals. The Nittany Lions are attempting to become the first Division I team to win three straight NCAA Tournament titles.

Hawai'i returns to the National Semifinals for the first time since 2003. The Wahine, who are 31-2 on the season, defeated Illinois in the Regional Semifinals and Michigan in the Regional Finals. Hawai'i is the only team in the National Semifinals to play all four of its matches on the road en route to the National Semifinals.
