Bozek Earns Rookie of the Week Laurels

University of Minnesota freshman defenseman Megan Bozek has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week after a four-point performance against North Dakota last weekend. It is Bozek's second rookie of the week accolades this year and the team's ninth in the first half of the season.
Hailing from Buffalo Grove, Ill., Bozek scored two goals and assisted on another two to amass four points in Minnesota’s two-game WCHA series sweep over North Dakota last weekend. Bozek scored a career-best two power-play goals in the Golden Gophers’ 3-1 win over the host UND last Saturday (Dec. 12) in Grand Forks, N.D. One of her two tallies was the eventual game-winner, coming at 1:53 of the third period. After UND scored a 5-on-3 goal to close the gap to 2-1, Bozek responded with her second power-play goal of the game at 17:23 in the third. Then last Sunday (Dec. 13), Bozek assisted on two other power-play goals to give her a series total of four points. She assisted on the game-winner and held the first assist on one of Brittany Francis’ goals en route to a 5-0 win. As a part of the Gopher defense, Bozek and the rest of the blueliners held North Dakota to just six shots on goal on Saturday and allowed just one goal in two games. On the season, Bozek is tied for fourth in scoring among her Gopher teammates with15 points (3g, 12a) in 20 games.
Bozek and the rest of the Golden Gophers are idle until Jan. 8-9 when Ohio State comes to town. The Jan. 8 game will be played at 6:07 p.m., while Saturday's contest is at 4:07 p.m.
