A two-time Minnesota state doubles champion, Emily Renault from Rochester Mayo High School has informed University of Minnesota women's tennis coach Tyler Thomson of her intent to attend the school in the fall and play for the Gophers.

Renault has been accepted admission to the university for the fall 2010 semester and will play for the Gophers during the 2010-11 season.

Renault captured the Minnesota state Class AA doubles championships in both 2007 and 2008. This fall, she played singles and lost in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament to eventual champion Aria Lambert of Minnetonka, but then won her next three matches in straight sets to claim the consolation title.

She was the 2007 USTA Northern Section Doubles champion and a doubles finalist at the under-16 USTA National Open in San Antonio, Texas.

"Rochester's junior tennis program is excellent, and Emily's status as the best high school senior in the state is a reflection of her background," Minnesota coach Tyler Thomson said. "She is positive, works hard, and is hungry to improve. I have no doubt that Emily will contribute to our program."

Renault will team with another Rochester native, Alexa Palen from Lourdes High School, who is a freshman this year for the Gophers. Minnesota finished 12-12 overall and was ranked 69th during the spring of 2009.
