Puga Leads Winthrop Intercollegiate by a Stroke

Minnesota sophomore Teresa Puga shot a 4-over par 76 during Friday’s opening round of The Winthrop Intercollegiate at Rock Hill Country Club in Rock Hill, S.C. and holds a one stroke lead over Kylie Bollenbach of Oral Roberts and Winthrop’s Brittany Dabule.

As a team, the Gophers are in a tie for third place with Yale following an opening round combined score of 322. Oral Roberts sits atop the team leaderboard at 312, four shots better than the host Winthrop Golden Eagles.

Fellow Gopher sophomore Michele Edlin is two strokes behind her teammate after opening with a 6-over par 78 and is in a four-way tie for fourth. Senior Paige Bromen carded a pair of 41’s on Friday and is in a tie for 18th place.

Sophomores Samantha Sommers and Mary Narzisi posted scores of 86 and 88 and are in tie for 38th and 45th, respectively. Freshman Courtney Massey, who is playing the event as an individual, is tied with Bromen in 18th place.

The 54-hole event will continue on Saturday as the teams will begin teeing off at 11:00 a.m. Central.
