Puga Places Third, Gophers Fourth at Winthrop

Minnesota’s Teresa Puga recorded her best finish of the season and led the Gophers to fourth place at the Winthrop Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C. Puga carded a 54-hole score of 232 (76-77-79) to tie for third place, the fourth top-10 finish of the season for the Gopher freshman. The fourth place finish was Minnesota’s fifth top-five finish of the season.

Yale captured the team title by defeating Winthrop in a playoff. Both teams recorded scores of 939 in regulation, two shots better than Oral Roberts and 12-shots ahead of Minnesota. Winthrop’s Brittany Dabule took home the individual title by one stroke over Kylie Bollenbach of Oral Roberts and four shots over Puga and Harriet Owers-Bradle of Yale.

Michele Edlin, who tied for the tournament lead with seven birdies and was second in par five scoring, finished in a two-way tie for eighth place with a 54-hole score of 236 (78-80-78). Freshman Courtney Massey, who played the event as an individual, finished in a tie for 14th place with a score of 242.

Samantha Sommers was able to move up a spot in the standings on Sunday to finish in three-way tie for 17th with a score of 243. Paige Bromen recorded a 54-hole score of 245 which put her in a tie for 20th while Mary Narzisi’s score of 247 was good for a tie for 26th place.

The Gophers will be off until Apr. 6-7 when they will travel Indiana to take part in the Indiana Invitational.
