Gophers Head to Augusta for Administaff Invite

Augusta State Invitational: The Gophers will be looking to improve on last season’s 14th place finish as they head to Augusta, Georgia to take part in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational. Minnesota shot 590 in last season’s rain shortened event. The invite is scheduled for 54-holes (36 on Apr. 4, 18 on Apr. 5) and will be played at the par 72, 7,231 yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
The 17-team field includes eight teams that are among the top-50 and 15 of the top-70 teams in the nation according to the most recent golfweek rankings, led by No. 15 Central Florida. The field includes (ranking): Augusta State (48th), UNC-Charlotte (61st), Tennessee-Chattanooga (35th), Coastal Carolina (42nd), Duke (53rd), Georgia Southern (41st), Georgia State (46th), Houston (151st), Kent State (64th), Lamar (28th), Minnesota (68th), North Carolina (66th), Tennessee (20th), South Carolina-Aiken (UR), Virginia Commonwealth (69th), Virginia Tech (65th) and Central Florida.

Last Time Out: The Gophers men’s golf team shot an even-par round of 288 on Sunday, their lowest round of the Pinehurst Invitational, to finish in a three-team tie for third with a 54-hole score of 877 (+13).
Senior Victor Almstrom strung together a consistent 54 holes with an even par score of 72 in each round and finished alone in seventh place. Thomas Campbell recorded the team’s lowest score of the final round with a 1-under par 71 to finish in a tie for 14th place. His 54-hole score of 219 is a season low.
Ben Pisani and Derek Chang each recorded their lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday. Pisani carded an even-par 72 and Chang recorded a 1-over par 73, as the pair finished in a tie for 22nd and 32nd, respectively. Cameron White finished with a 54-hole score of 228, good for a tie for 60th place. Justin Kaplan, playing the event as an individual, recorded rounds of 78 and 79 in rounds one and two but finished strong with an even par 72 on Tuesday. He finished in a tie for 66th place.
The Gophers: Minnesota’s lineup will consist of senior Victor Almstrom along with juniors Thomas Campbell and Ben Pisani, sophomore Justin Kaplan and freshman Derek Chang. Almstrom and Pisani have appeared in all seven of the Gophers events this season while Chang has seen action in six events during his opening campaign.
Up Next: The Gophers will travel to Columbus, Ohio next weekend to take part in the Robert Kepler Invitational, hosted by the Ohio State University. The two-day event is scheduled for Apr. 11-12 and will be played at OSU’s Scarlet Course. The Robert Kepler Invite will be the final regular-season event for the Gophers before the Big Ten Championships on May 1-3. Minnesota finished second in last year;s championships. The NCAA regionals are scheduled for May 14-17.
