Cal Head Coach Barry Weiner
On highlights of his team’s performance this afternoon:
“I was most happy about how hard my team fought. There were some routines that were a little off, but nobody gave up, and they battled all the way through.”

On what he’ll tell his gymnasts in preparation for tomorrow’s team finals:
“I’ll tell them to stay in the moment, be focused, have a good time, and we’ve already won.”

Michigan Head Coach Kurt Golder
On the team’s performance:
“I thought our performance was real good. We had a little bit of a slow start on the parallel bars, but I thought the pommel horse was a turning point for us. We were real steady from there.”

On a particular individual performance:
“I was real pleased with Thomas Kelley on high bar. At the end of the event he was in first place and it stayed that way. It’s hard to get a lead on the first or second event and maintain it throughout the whole championship, but he did that.”

Stanford Head Coach Thom Glielmi
On their top performance of the session:
“We were pleased with how we performed. Our guys were pretty relaxed. We wanted to come in and get the first meet under our belt and we did that. We have room to improve and plan to keep getting better as we continue in this competition.”

On starting the first rotation on one of their strongest events, the vault:
“It’s a great event to start on because it gets that initial energy out and it’s good for us because we’ve got a great vault team. It’s also a great event to get the first-meet jitters out and to get us going a little. Things just kind of fell into place for us.”
