A pair of University of Minnesota men’s gymnasts qualified Friday night for the individual event finals of the NCAA Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships at the Sports Pavilion. Gopher freshman DJ Repp and senior Kit Beikmann will each have a chance to compete for a national title Saturday.

Beikmann finished in a five-way tie for seventh place on the pommel horse after scoring a 14.900 Friday night. He is a former All-America performer in the event and was a second-team All-Big Ten performer on the horse for the past two seasons.

Repp tallied a score 15.900 on the vault to finish in a tie for seventh place. The freshman will vie for a national championship and All-America honors in his first season as a collegiate gymnast.

The top 10 finishers in each event advanced to Saturday’s national individual finals, which are slated to begin at 7 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion.

Beikmann will be the fifth competitor Saturday on the pommel horse. Repp will be the second man up on the vault.
