Gophers Tied for 13th at Lady Buckeye

The University of Minnesota women’s golf team struggled on day one of the Lady Buckeye, the team’s final tune-up for next week’s Big Ten Championships. The Gophers played 36-holes on Saturday, opening with a 321 before posting a 322 in the afternoon session. They are in a tie for 13th place with Nebraska heading into Sunday’s final round.

The host Ohio State Buckeyes lead the event after posting rounds of 295 and 294. They lead by 10 strokes over second-place Northwestern and 14 strokes over third place Kent State.  OSU’s In Hong Lim carded rounds of 68 and 74 and leads the battle for medalist honors by one stroke over Michigan State’s Laura Kueny.

Gopher sophomore Teresa Puga and senior Paige Bromen where the only Minnesota players that posted sub-80 rounds on Saturday. Puga opened with a 1-over par 73 in the morning and posted a 79 in the afternoon session. She heads into Sunday in a five-way tie for 17th place. Bromen is in a tie for 39th place after rounds of 79 and 78.

Senior Kelli Berns carded rounds of 85 and 81 and is alone in 73rd place. Sophomore Mary Narzisi is in a tie for 75th place with a 36-hole score of 169 while fellow sophomore Michele Edlin is alone in 78th place with a score of 172. 

The third and final round from Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 a.m. The entire round can be followed live at golfstat.com.
