GAME 1 NOTES

Series Notes
∙ Minnesota leads the all-time series, 16-15.
∙ Lisa Bernstein and Julie Standering are 14-13 all-time against Wisconsin, and 7-8 in Madison.
∙ Minnesota has won four straight against the Badgers, and five of the past seven.
∙ Minnesota has won four consecutive games in Madison, dating back to April 9, 2006.

Individual Notes
∙ Briana Hassett recorded her 14th shutout of the season, tying Vicki Swanson’s 1978 school record for shutouts in a single season.
∙ Hassett’s complete-game one-hitter was her fourth of the season.
∙ Shannon Stemper was hit by a pitch for the ninth time this season to open the second inning.
∙ Stemper stole her second base of the season.
∙ With 7.0 innings pitched, Hassett moved past Angie Recknor (2000-03) and into fourth place on Minnesota’s career list for innings pitched. Hassett has now been in the circle for 728.1 innings.
∙ Hassett struck out the side in the second inning, and finished with nine strikeouts in the game. For the season, her total now stands at 364 Ks in 258.1 innings.
∙ Colleen Conway reached base on a bunt single in the top of the third, and finished 1-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Conway’s past four base hits have come via bunts.
∙ Malisa Barnes drew her fifth intentional walk this season to load the bases with two outs in the fifth.
∙ Stemper pulled into second place on the team in runs batted in (16) with a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth.
∙ Tina Watts scored a season-high two runs in the victory.

Team Notes
∙ With the win, Minnesota earned 20 points toward the Border Battle Cup standings, stretching Minnesota’s lead in the contest to 415-245.
∙ Minnesota improved to 14-1 this season when leading after three innings.
∙ The Gophers are now 21-6 when scoring first.
∙ Minnesota is 20-6 when holding its opponent to two runs or less.

∙ Minnesota had its four-game winning streak against the Badgers snapped. The Gophers have won five of the past eight games in the series.
∙ The loss also ended Minnesota’s streak of four straight wins in Madison, dating back to a 3-2 setback in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader on April 9, 2006.

Individual Notes
∙ Sammie Howard gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning by hitting her first career home run, a solo shot over the right field fence.
∙ Briana Hassett pitched her 33 complete game this season, striking out seven to increase her school record total to 371 in 265 innings pitched.
