Gophers Move up to Ninth at Championships

The Golden Gopher women’s golf team is in position to finish the Big Ten Championships higher than any other Minnesota team has since 2001. That squad tied for fourth in the championships.
Through 54-holes in West Lafayette, Ind. the Gophers are in ninth place with a score of 968, one shot out of eighth and only nine shots out of sixth.
Minnesota was led on Saturday by sophomore Mary Narzisi. She fired a 4-over par 76 and is in a tie for 18th with a 54-hole score of 240. Fellow sophomore Samantha Sommers and senior Paige Bromen both carded rounds of 7-over par 79 at Purdue’s Kampen Course on Saturday and are in a tie for 24th and 34th, respectively.
Teresa Puga, who paced the Gophers during the first two rounds, shot an 86 in round three and is in a tie for 40th place. Also, Michele Edlin and Kelli Berns are in a tie for 48th and 55th, respectively.
The defending champion Purdue Boilermakers hold a firm 36-shot lead over Michigan State after posting a second-consecutive round of 300 on Saturday. Ohio State is in third place, four shots back of the Spartans and one shot ahead of Michigan. Northwestern is in fifth with a 54-hole score of 953.
The Boilermakers have three players in the top four individually, led by Maude-Aimee LeBlanc who is first overall with a score of 220. She is two strokes ahead of her teammate Maria Hernandez.
