Matt Fisher Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

Minnesota junior Matt Fisher was named the Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week after clearing a nation-leading high jump of 7 feet, 4 1/2 inches last Saturday at the Auburn Tiger Classic. Fisher leaped not only to the top of the national collegiate rankings but the height is also currently the seventh-best jump in the world this season. The 2009 Big Ten indoor champion, Fisher now owns an NCAA Midwest Region Championships qualifier and the third-best high jump in Gopher history.
The Big Ten weekly award is Fisher’s first of his Gopher career. Minnesota has had athletes honored as a Big Ten Athlete of the Week seventh times during the 2009 season.
