Minnesota Ranked No. 21 in Weekly Poll

The Minnesota baseball team (33-14, 15-5) was ranked in the top 25 in three different polls for the week of May 11, as it came in at No. 21 in the Baseball America poll and was ranked No. 24 in both the Collegiate Baseball Magazine and Rivals.com polls.

Minnesota was ranked No. 25 in the Baseball America poll on Mar. 16, 23, 30 and Apr. 13. The Golden Gophers were also ranked No. 30 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 on Apr. 6 and No. 23 on Apr. 13. Minnesota's No. 21 ranking in the Baseball America Top 25 is its highest of the 2009 campaign. This week, was the first appearance by the Golden Gophers in the Rivals.com Top 25

Entering the week, the Golden Gophers currently sit in first place in the Big Ten at 15-5. They are a half game up on Ohio State and Illinois who are tied for second place at 15-6. Indiana also enters the week a game back of Minnesota with a 14-6 Big Ten record.

Last week, Minnesota won two of out three at Michigan to climb to 33-14 overall. The Golden Gophers won the first two games 9-5 and 12-5 to extend their Big Ten winning streak to nine games dating back to Apr. 18th at the time. Minnesota saw that streak end when it dropped the series finale to Michigan 10-4 on May 10.

Minnesota will be back in action on Thursday, May 14 at 5:35 p.m. (CT) when it travels to Penn State. The Golden Gophers will also face the Nittany Lions on Friday, May 15 at 5:35 p.m. (CT) and Saturday, May 16 at 1:05 (CT). All three games can be heard live on KLBB (1220 AM) and gophersports.com.
