University of Minnesota men’s swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Evan Lee-To (Excelsior, Minn.) and Andrew Griffey (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) have signed Acceptance of Admission forms to attend the University of Minnesota.
Both future Gophers are very familiar with the Gopher program as brothers of graduating seniors from Minnesota's 2008-09 team. Lee-To's brother, Colin, was the 2009 Big Ten champion in the 100 breaststroke and earned eight All-America awards in his career. He was also part of the Gophers' 200 medley relay team that broke the Big Ten record in winning the conference title. Griffey's brother, Josh, was a team captain as a senior and was a key point contributor over the last two seasons after transferring from Rutgers University.
Lee-To, a senior at Minnetonka High School, finished third in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle at the 2009 Minnesota State AA Championships. He helped Minnetonka finish second at the meet. He holds top times of 21.64 in the 50 free, 57.21 in the 100 breaststroke, 47.12 in the 100 free and 2:09.58 in the 200 breast (short course yards). He competes for coach Chris Guerrara at Minnetonka High School and Tim Daly with the Mach 3 Flyers club.
Griffey, a senior at Kenosha Tremper High School, scored twice at the 2009 Wisconsin State Championships including a seventh-place showing in the 100 backstroke. He owns top times of 52.68 in the 100 backstroke and 21.96 in the 50 free (short course yards). He competes for Mike McKay at Tremper High School and Neil Wright with South Eastern Aquatics YMCA.
