Former University of Minnesota golfer Bronson La’Cassie (2004-07) birdied the fifth playoff hole to defeat Kelly Grunewald on May 17 for the Sunset Hills NGA Classic title, his first as a member of the Hooters Tour. La’Cassie joins fellow Gopher Alums Wilhelm Schauman, Simon Nash and Justin Smith, who has three wins on the Hooters Tour, as a winner on the Hooters Tour.
“It’s great to get the win,” La’Cassie said in a Hooters Tour press release. “I hit the ball well all week and kept it in front of me for the most part and made a few putts. When you do a lot of good things during the week it’s nice to be rewarded.”
La’Cassie, the only four-time All-American in Gopher history, posted rounds of 67-71-72-69 for 72-hole score of 9-under par 279 en route to the title. The win is the second top-five finish on the season for the Queensland, Australia native and his sixth top-five finish on the Hooters Tour since turning pro following the 2007 collegiate season.
La’Cassie is currently third on the tour’s money list while Smith is fifth and yet another Gopher Alum Matt Anderson is 17th.
