Hassett Continues to Draw Media Attention

She's the NCAA Division I leader in strikeouts, carries a 3.33 grade point average as a business major in the prestigious Carlson School of Management, and has a great personality, so it's no surprise that Minnesota senior pitcher Briana Hassett has attracted lots of media attention this season.

Hassett, who has a school-record 401 strikeouts in her final season with the Golden Gophers, was recently featured in a Mike Max story on WCCO-TV. In it, she talks with Max about her four years at Minnesota, and how her competitiveness allowed her to overcome some struggles early in her career. And then she shows off her "money pitch," a big-breaking curveball that has given opponents fits during her career. To see the WCCO story, click here.

The right-hander from Eagan, and a graduate of Eastview High School, also will be featured in Bob Sansevere's Body Shots column in the Saturday (May 9) edition of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. Sansevere's article on Hassett will run on the inside front cover of the Sports section.

Hassett and the Gophers (23-30, 6-12 Big Ten) will wrap up their season this weekend, as they play a pair of games at the University of Iowa (40-14, 11-7). The opener between the teams takes place this evening, with first pitch at the Hawkeyes' Pearl Field set for 6:00 p.m.
