Sexton Drafted in 37th Round by Brewers

Sophomore Cullen Sexton (Plover, Wis.) was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 1,126th overall pick in the 37th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.

He became the first Golden Gopher drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers since 1999 when Frank Wagner was drafted in the 12th round. It marked the second time Sexton has been picked by the Brewers. Sexton also was picked in the 43rd round by the Milwaukee Brewers coming out of high school in 2007.

Sexton was 4-0 with a 5.16 ERA, one save and 23 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. In his first five outings of the year, Sexton pitched 10 shutout innings, was 3-0 with a save, gave up four hits and struck out eight batters. He also picked up a win against Dallas Baptist on Mar. 21, giving him four wins and a save in his first seven outings of the year.

He finished third on the team in appearances with 21 on the season. In his first two years with Minnesota, Sexton has made 36 appearances for the Golden Gophers. He finished his season a strong not, as he pitched 1.1 shutout innings against No. 2 LSU and struck out a pair of batters in that outing.
