Griak Paces Gopher Men's CC/Track Fundraiser

6/30/2009 12:00:00 AM | Men's Cross Country

The impact of the legendary Roy Griak is felt throughout the Minnesota men’s cross country/track program. Working toward the goal of endowing every athletic scholarship, as well as assisting with other projects such as the Gophers’ locker room remodel, Griak, head coach Steve Plasencia and the Gopher program hosted a fundraising event at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on Monday.

The event, fondly tabbed the Snotty Nose Open, encompasses both a golf outing and a bike outing for the non-golfers. Alumni and supporters then gathered for a meal and prizes to complete the fun-filled day.

The event’s name deserves an explanation. During the lengthy coaching career with the Gophers, Griak required heart, effort and determination from his men but he also asked them to be “snotty nose tough.” Thus, the name of the annual event supporting the Gopher men’s cross country and track teams.
